AN APPEAL FOR THE
PROPOSED UNIVERSAL TEMPLE OF SRI RAMAKRISHNA AT JAIPUR

PRELUDE
Being pained at the wretched condition of the then India, Swami Vivekananda, the patriotic monk wanted its upliftment in all human aspects. Inspired by his guru, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Swami Vivekananda established Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission for the good of  India and the world at large. It was  the desire of Swamiji to open centres at Jaipur, Ajmer and Alwar in Rajasthan. His ideas of development and progress through selfless service penetrated through different parts of Rajasthan also. Motivated by his teachings, several devotees of Sri Ramakrishna joined together and started private centres in Bikaner, Khetri, Ajmer etc. In due course, centres at Khetri and Jaipur were affiliated to Ramakrishna Order. Thereby the desire of Swamiji to have a centre of service at JAIPUR, the historical pink city was fulfilled in the year 1988. Since then this centre has been rendering its humanitarian services in various ways.

Letter from the Secretary

Ramakrishna Mission, Jaipur is a branch centre of world renowned Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission having its head quarters at Belur Math, Howrah – West Bengal. This centre is located in the capital of Rajasthan which is historically named as the Pink City. It is a matter of great pleasure that a centre of service in the name of Sri Ramakrishna took shape in 1978 as if to fulfil the wish of  Swami Vivekananda in this city of rich cultuaral heritage  of forts, monuments, temples etc.
Dr. Omkar Saxena and a group of ardent devotees of Sri Ramakrishna made their sincere efforts to start a centre in Jaipur which was fulfilled in 1978. Apart from facilities for other services, a prayer hall was also built.   Further, the devoted, earnest and enthusiastic group succeeded in affiliating this centre as the full fledged branch of Ramakrishna Math and Mission. Swami Pujyanandaji Maharaj became the first head of this branch in 1988.

For the past 32 years, regular daily worship and other celebrations are being conducted in the existing prayer hall. There has been a proposal since the inception to build a suitable temple of appropriate design befitting the historical Pink City but such a proposal could not be implemented so far for lack of adequate financial and other resources. Hence, the imperative need of the hour is to build a universal temple similar to Belur Math for the devotees. The temple includes an auditorium  at  the  basement for

for discourses and cultural programmes. The estimated cost of the project is 5(five) crores.  Also there is a need to raise a Corpus Fund of Rs. One crore to meet the future maintenance of the temple and regular/special  worships.

Basing on receipt of some funds, we have started the work. Two pictures of the same are given in this leaflet. To complete the long cherished desire of  devotees of Jaipur, we appeal to the generous public to donate liberally for the early completion of the Project. In this connection, we would like to reiterate that all our service activities depend entirely on the generous donors, devotees, institutions and well wishers. We do not receive any grant from the government – either  Central or the State. Hence, we  appeal to you for help financially or otherwise in serving the humanity.

Yours in the service of the Lord,
Swami Hridananda
Secretary
